Construction Management Experience
I worked in construction management for five years prior to graduate school. My roles included Project Engineer, Project Estimator, and Assistant Project Manager for education, multifamily, commercial, and industrial projects in Washington DC and the Carolinas. In those roles, I conducted onboarding for all new project engineers in my region, and developed the company’s early career training program with quarterly site tours, mentoring, and skills training. I served on several committees, including one dedicated to evaluating and improving company-wide technology.
Throughout my time at the general contractor, I was mentored by a Professional Engineer who had worked in the industry for many years. I was able to attend a 4-month preparation course for the Professional Engineering exam. In April 2019, I passed the PE exam, and in January 2020, I officially became a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of North Carolina. Since then, I have maintained my licensure through continuing education credits.
Graduate Archer Fellowship
As part of the Graduate Archer Fellowship, I served as an intern at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, reporting to the agency’s Senior Advisor for Housing Supply. During this internship, I coordinated with agency staff to develop, write, and edit a blog series called “Our Way Home”, which was part of the Secretary’s initiative to improve housing supply throughout the United States.
I was a Graduate Archer Fellow in Summer 2022. During this fellowship, I lived, worked, and learned for 12 weeks in Washington, DC. I attended classes and workshops to learn about federal policy. I spent the summer developing my own policy proposal, focused on interagency coordination around housing and water challenges in tribal communities.
